Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Play Smash or Pass collects when you use playsmashorpass.com, how we use it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Last updated: March 28, 2026
Who we are
This policy applies to the website playsmashorpass.com and related pages we operate under the Play Smash or Pass brand (the “Service”).
For privacy questions, data requests, or complaints, contact us at support@playsmashorpass.com.
We may update this policy as the Service changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows the latest revision. Continued use of the Service after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy. When changes are significant, we may also call them out on the site when practical.
Scope of this policy
This policy covers information processed when you:
- Browse the homepage or themed Smash or Pass game pages
- Choose Smash, Pass, or Skip during a round
- View community percentages or result summaries
- Visit pages such as About, Terms, or Contact
- Email our support address
It does not control the privacy practices of third-party sites we link to (for example franchise wikis, social networks you open, or other external sites). Those services have their own policies.
Information we collect
1. Information you provide
- Game choices. When you tap Smash, Pass, or Skip, we record what is needed to move your round forward and, for public tallies, to update the combined Smash/Pass totals for that character.
- Messages you send us. If you email support, we receive your email address, the message content, and any attachments you include.
- Optional future account or creator details. If we later offer sign-in or a custom game creator, we may collect details you choose to submit—such as a display name, game title, uploaded images, or share settings. We will show extra notices at that time when required.
2. Information collected automatically
- Basic technical logs. Like most websites, our servers may record information such as IP address, approximate time of the request, browser type, referring page, the page you visited, and simple error details that help us keep the site working.
- Device context. Your browser handles on-screen layout. We do not need your precise GPS location to play.
- Abuse-prevention signals. Short-lived records (for example how often requests come from a network address) help us stop automated flooding so everyone can keep playing.
- Aggregate analytics. We may use privacy-conscious analytics or server metrics to understand which pages are popular, whether rounds are completed, and where errors happen. We aim not to store unnecessary direct identifiers in analytics tools.
3. Information we do not intentionally collect
- Government ID numbers
- Payment card data for free play (there is no checkout on the core games)
- Precise location from your device sensors
- Sensitive personal details we never ask you to submit
Please do not email us sensitive personal data unless it is strictly necessary for a legal or safety request.
How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Run, maintain, and improve the Smash or Pass games and site performance
- Calculate and display community Smash/Pass percentages and related summaries
- Prevent spam, fraud, and abuse
- Find and fix outages or bugs, and keep the site secure
- Respond to support, privacy, and rights-holder requests
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use
- Plan improvements such as new lineups or the custom creator
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your individual Smash/Pass history to build a public personal profile tied to your name, because free play does not require a named account.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process personal data under these bases where applicable:
- Legitimate interests — running a free game site, keeping it secure, understanding overall usage, and answering support mail, balanced against your rights.
- Contract / steps prior to contract — providing the Service you request when you load pages and make game choices.
- Consent — where a non-essential cookie or similar technology requires it under local law.
- Legal obligation — when we must retain or disclose information to comply with law, regulation, or valid legal process.
Retention
- Combined Smash/Pass totals may be kept for as long as the related game page remains active, because they power community features.
- Abuse-prevention records are short-lived and expire after the protection window.
- Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and reliability, then deleted or de-identified on a rolling basis.
- Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and maintain a basic support record, unless a shorter or longer period is required by law.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to a small entertainment site, including encrypted connections in production, restricted access to our systems, and protections that limit automated abuse of voting.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe you found a security issue, email support@playsmashorpass.com with details so we can investigate.
Children
The Service is general-audience entertainment centered on fictional characters. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact support@playsmashorpass.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Some themed lineups focus on adult characters for content reasons. That does not mean every visitor is an adult. Parents and guardians should use device-level controls if needed.
International transfers
We may process and store information in the United States or other countries where the companies that help us run the site operate. Those countries may have privacy laws different from the laws in your region. Where required, we rely on appropriate transfer safeguards or other lawful grounds.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Delete personal data in certain circumstances
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a copy of information you provided, in a portable form
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Because free play is largely anonymous, we may need extra detail to find your data—for example the email thread you opened with us. Combined vote totals that cannot reasonably be linked back to you may fall outside individual deletion in the same way published anonymous statistics do, but we will explain what we can and cannot do when you write in.
Send requests to support@playsmashorpass.com. We may need to verify the request before acting.
Do not sell or share (US state laws)
We do not sell personal information for money. If a US state privacy law treats certain advertising technologies as a “sale” or “share,” we will update this section and provide any required opt-out method if we start using those technologies.
To make a state privacy request today, email support@playsmashorpass.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and your state of residence.
